GEHAMS N scale layout is based on the Southern/Union Pacific's route from Bakersfield to Mojave, with a lot of proto-freelancing! 80-feet in length and 25 wide. The layout includes 17-scale miles of mainline with plenty of industries for switching opportunities in West Bakersfield, Edison, Kernville and Trona Branch Lines. The layout is not complete with several projects current being worked on, such as installing the benchwork and track upgrading from Edison to the Tehachapi Loop; constructing the Intermodal facilities in Bakersfield; constructing the Trona Branch; installing operating signals for the mainline, with half of those signals already installed and operating. The illustration here is just the benchwork, as I just started updating the layout plan for the web site. Please bear with me while I learn the layout planning software, as the next phase of this plan is to install the trackwork, then the scenery, so please check back on a regular basis while I make periodical updates to this plan for the web site. Like any CAD software, it will take a little time to learn it--but I'm learnin' and getting there! Not bad for a 73-year old guy!
GEHAMS HO Director, Mike Cronin, is putting together a 3’ x 6’ N scale layout for those that want to learn how to do model railroading scenery. Mike is going to get the groundwork started by getting all the track in place, then anyone wanting to learn how to do model railroading scenery is more than welcomed to try their hand at it. Drop on by the GEHAMS 2ndfloor (N scale floor) on any Saturday, 10 AM – 1PM and check it out.
